A stretch of land loved and described by artists and poets around the world. Your starting point for the hiking excursions will be a fine hotel in Fiascherino, a tiny seaside village with excellent fish restaurants, free and equipped beaches and fabulous bays.

Program 3 nights /4 days:

1° day: Get acquainted with the area and hike to Lerici

Check-in at the booked hotel and receive your welcome package containing information about the territory, the roadbook for the hikes and all necessary vouchers.

If the arrival time allows it, we suggest discovering the immediate surroundings by doing a first walking tour this afternoon. You start directly from the hotel and follow the Liguria trail all the way to Lerici. Enjoy spectacular views over the Gulf of Poets, especially at sunset, and an atmosphere of peace and harmony. The path winds through olive groves, orange and lemon gardens. Lerici is a small seaside town with elegant restaurants and hotels, yet

there are still fishermen and one can buy freshly caught fish. Be sure to take a picture of the medieval castle of Lerici.

Walking time: 2 hours.

2° day: Portovenere and Palmaria Island

This morning you will take the local bus for a short ride down to the harbor of Lerici. From there, you board on the ferry boat to Portovenere. This gives you the unique opportunity to enjoy the gorgeous landscape of the Gulf of Poets from the sea. Once in Portovenere, you change the boat and within a few minutes, you reach the Island “Palmaria” where the hike is planned to start.

Palmaria is the largest of three islands in the Gulf of La Spezia and it is car-free. It is covered by typical Mediterranean vegetation and features pine and oak trees, sandy beaches, high cliffs overhanging the water and many caves. There are a few buildings of a military character and of great historical interest: Fort Count of Cavour, now used as experimental environmental education center and several bunkers submerged by vegetation. Remarkable is the presence of an abandoned quarry, once used for the extraction of the precious black marble with streaks of gold. This trail offers some fantastic panoramic views over the vast open sea, as well as on the other two islands and the beautiful church of San Pietro di Porto Venere. In the afternoon, it is time to reward yourself with a dip into the sea or a relaxed stroll through Porto Venere tasting a delicious ice-cream before heading back to Lerici by ferry boat.

Walking time: 3,5 hours.

3° day: Montemarcello Park and wine tasting

Today, you start again directly from the hotel, hiking into the area of the Natural Park of Montemarcello, above Lerici and Tellaro. The path leads through fragrant Mediterranean macchia, broom and strawberry trees, and provides numerous magnificent views over the sea and the islands of Palmaria and Tino. You will pass Tellaro, Zanego, the Botanical Garden on Mount Murlo and reach the picturesque village Montemarcello. This small, medieval settlement is characterized by narrow streets, colorful houses and lovely squares decorated with lush flowers. Sitting on top of the Caprione promontory, it offers you a 360-degree view over the Gulf of La Spezia, the river Magra and its valley, the Apuane Alps and the long coastline of Tuscany. No wonder

it was elected in 2007 among “The 100 Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”.

From there, the hiking trail leads downhills, still giving free gorgeous views and ending in Bocca di Magra, right on the Magra river. You can relax and observe some of the most beautiful sailing boats and motor yachts in its marina. Later in the afternoon, a car with driver will pick you up and you will visit one of the most famous wineries of this region. The main grape variety in this part of Liguria is Vermentino. You will have a guided tour through the estate and learn about the history of this farm, the wine growing methods, see the private wine museum and certainly taste some of its wines.
