Madonna Bianca in Portovenere

Every August 17th, the patron saint of the village is celebrated, the Madonna Bianca. Legend tells that around 1300, a man called Mastro Luciardo, praying in front of the picture faded by time, saw recoloring it in front of his eyes. To remember this miracle, the rocks below the church of St. Peter are filled with torches until the sea and the atmosphere is so suggestive to enchant anyone who sees it.
