Aurore Lucile Dupin about Cinque Terre.

It was the years 1804 when the future French writer and playwright Aurore Lucile Dupin was born .
Probably you'll know her as “George Sand” , the male pseudonym she had chosen considering that at her epoch female writers weren't viewed highly.
Different from the women of her age , even thanks to the education she received , “George Sand” was interested in politics , culture and literature.
When she moved to Paris , she decided to dress as a mama to be allowed to enter in places that were forbidden to female public. During her formation , she got in touch with the Romanticism idea.
If we talk about Romanticism , which better place than our gulf to lose ourself in the thunderous crashing of the wares and fall in love with the red sunsets above the sea? In fact , “George Sand” isn't different from other writers and poets that got lost in their thoughts on our rocks.
She wrote : “My little dear , I'm writing while I'm sitting on a mountain at bottom of the Gulf of La Spezia it's a quite and gorgeous place with temperate climate and good places to go out for walk... ”.

This quote extracted by George Sand's books “Viaggio romantico a Porto Venere” containing her summons about La spezia and Golfo dei Poeti , gives testimony about the presence of the writer in our area. Italy in fact , was particularly appreciated by romantic European poets because of its art and beautiful landscapes.
“George Sand” wrote about Porto Venere's church , “...The needle of a little bell tower planted on monitor duty in face of immensity..”.
The writer visited Isola Palmaria , Golfo dei Poeti and some surrounding areas and was fascinated not only by the landscape , but also by the citizens behaviour ,“I add that the citizens seem really enjoyable , they give friendly but not formal greetings while passing by , and they don't beg for money , thing that is usually done in the other Italian provinces” she said .
So , if you know Shelley and Byron's stories , Romantic poets and lovers of the Golfo dei Poeti , add this character who had the audacity to stand out and to demonstrate that ladies can express their feelings. Maybe now , when you watch Porto Venere , you'll do it with different eyes , George Sand's eyes , thinking that Saint Pietro wasn't only a simple church but , as mentioned : “the needle of little bell tower planted on monitor duty , in the face of immensity”.
