How to get to Cinque Terre

Visiting the Cinque Terre by sea is the most pleasent means. Fresh air, sure seat places and beautiful landscapes.
Ferry-boats to the Cinque Terre, leave by the jetty of La Spezia, Passeggiata Morin and Portovenere – a beautiful marine village of the Gulf of Poets.
The price is more expensive than the train’s one.

Travel by train is the faster and economic way that you can choose to reach the Cinque Terre and move through them.
Who arrives from airports (Pisa, Genova, Malpensa, Bologna), can use La Spezia Center Station as a reference piont – in fact, from here, regional trains leave and stop in each village (to the Genova direction).
During the Summer, there are trains that leave every half hour and they take about 30 minutes to arrive at the last one of the Cinque Terre (Monterosso al Mare).
Prices and time tables of departure can be consulted on net/app “Trenitalia” or on the noticeboard in each station.

Even by car or by camper, the Cinque Terre are easily attainable even by road.
Leaving La Spezia, you go along the Litoranea of Cinque Terre SS 370. The road is full of signs that show the right route, once you get to the Litoranea, the view is breathtaking. The road has a view of 180° on the whole coast of the National Park.
Riomaggiore and Manarola are the only two villages you can reach by this street.
Getting to Corniglia and Vernazza is more difficult, because they are set in a more isolated position compares to the others villages. The easier way is through the exit of Brugnato Borghetto on the A12 Genova-La Spezia and keep going towards Soviore, Pignone, Monterosso.
Once you are in Monterosso, you will be able to follow the signs to Vernazza and Corniglia.
Although it is not recommended going through the villages by car because of the few payment car parks available and the prohibition to the traffic into the villages. A lot of the roads are impervious.
It is suggested to find a car park in La Spezia or Monterosso and move by train, by ferryboat or by the National Park bus service.

The only village reachable by sea is Portovenere and its islands.
Ferry-boats leave every day from La Spezia’s wharf, in Passeggiata Morin and stop in Palmaria island and Portovenere’s wharf.
From it, are available trips to see the three islands, Cinque Terre and all the east shore

The busses’ number to get to sea villages and to Portovenere is 11 or is marked with the letter P .
Public transports stop in each hamlet and there are different timetables depending on the season.

Sea villages are reachable by the county road that starts from La Spezia and ends in Portovenere. Starting from the city, the best reference piont to get to the villages and Portovenere is the ‘’Alberto Picco’’ stadium. From it, proceed straight, following the road signs to Portovenere for 11km at least. 
The first village you are going to find on your way will be Marola, then Cadimare, Fezzano, Le Grazie and, to cap it all, Portovenere and its islands.
In every village, there are many car parks. In Portovenere, parking lots are situated on the hilltop. Therefore, the District offers a bus service that can be used to travel inside the village.
It is suggested to use public transoports because of the high price and the problem to find a parking lot

Ferries depart daily from the pier, at promenade Morin and stop in the port of Lerici
a short walk from the main square.
From the port you can easily walk to the carrugio, the castle of Lerici and the small surrounding shores to make a refreshing swim in the sea.
There are several beaches along the promenade where you can log in to enjoy an afternoon at the seaside.

The bus to get to the towns of San Terenzo and Lerici is bus marked with the letter L or S. To reach the village of Tellaro, instead, is

must stop at Lerici, at the Town Hall square and wait there the shuttle on its way to the village.

From Italy, reaching Lerici is easy — simply continue along Viale San Bartolomeo and from there, the road is straight ahead. It takes approximately 20/30 minutes to reach San Terenzo and Lerici. Once there, the parking fee easier to reach is the parking of Venere Azzurra.

La Spezia has a cruise terminal so if you arrive by ship there is a shuttle that takes you directly into town or to the nearby pier where you can get a ferryboat to Portovenere, the Islands, Lerici and the Cinque Terre villages.

Get off at La Spezia Centrale. Coming from Milan or Genova, the direction is Rome or Livorno. If you travel from the south follow the direction to Genova or Milan. From La Spezia Central Station the trains depart for the Cinque Terre villages and the Val di Magra. 

Either coming from the north or from the south, on A12 or A15 motorways, the exit is easily accessible and from there you get into town in few minutes.
If you follow the road sign to La Spezia, the motorway will end up in Via Carducci and Viale Italia, wide streets leading to the marina.

There is no local airport .
The closest are: Pisa - International airport Galileo Galilei, 84 km away from La Spezia
Genova - International airport Cristoforo Colombo, 113 km away.
From both airports La Spezia is easily reachable by train or by car.

The bus to get to Sarzana and continue towards Val di Magra is marked with the letter S-bus that passes for Lerici and continues towards

Sarzana-, the letter P and the number 11-traveling from Portovenere and arrives in Sarzana, passing for spice.

Public transport is available in every village and have different hours depending on the season.

Get to Sarzana via train is perhaps the most convenient and fast, just 10 minutes away and you can reach the city centre on foot from the station.

Trains depart daily from La Spezia Central Station.

Get to Sarzana in the car is just as easy, but you'll have to deal with the few parking spots in the city.

Starting from La Spezia follow Highway 15, then take A12/E80 direction Aurelia highway. Exiting at

Saranza, get to the city centre is a few minutes issues following directions.

There are different options to reach the Val di Vara by their own means.

The simplest: take the A12 La Spezia direction Genova and exit in Brugnato-Borghetto Vara. The villages that you can instantly visit are precisely those of Brunato, Borghetto Vara, Calice al Cornoviglio and Use.

Passing from the Centre of La Spezia instead, continuing from central station to the North and along the Highway 1 you can reach the Val di Vara, passing by the hamlets of Beverino, Riccò del Golfo
