Dante Alighieri in the Gulf of Poets

The Gulf Of Poets gave hospitality to some of the most important voices of the Italian literature and it was for them source of inspiration.

It is necessary to remember in this circumstance the passage of Dante Alighieri at the beginning of XIV century.

The poet during his exile from Florence also reached our bay and the neighbouring territories , some of that surprised him so much that to be mentioned in his major work.

In 1306 Dante was hosted by Franceschino di Mulazzo.

When the bishop and the marquis decided to stipulate the pace between them , they asked for Dante's medication.

The 6th of October 1306 was granted the peace part in Sarzana square , the place where today the memory of Dante's presence is include in some commemorative epigraphies.

The same day Dante , send by Malaspina , went to Castelnuovo Magra by bishop's Palace , so the peace was officially stipulated.

A first reference in found in the XXIV canticle of Hall , at lines 144-147 :

“Tragge Marta vapor in Val di Magra

ch'é di torbidi nuvoli involuto

e con tempesta impetuosa e agra“

The poet alludes to taking of Pistoia by Morello Malaspina , sir of Lunigiana.
