VILLA ROMANDA DEL VARIGNANO

A beautiful heirloom of the Gulf

The Gulf of Poets is a wonderful jewels casket: amazing gems hide in the littlest villages
In the Varignano district of Le Grazie - the village above Portovenere - hosts the sea villa romana with the dock-yard and the query and a series of installations to produce the oil from the olive groves around.

At the end of a little valley sourrounded by olive groves, the Villa Romana is a proud evidence of the Roman period in our Gulf: it was the base of an agricultural holding as well as a happy resting place.

The courtyard was used to be reserved to the oil mill: the installation making the oli was made by two press and a olive cell. It kept working till the I century a.C.

Moreover, there was a thermal station with the calidarium, sudatorium, tepidarium efrigidarium around a big tub with a fountain.
The ruins testify the existance of a big tank.
