The Cinque Terre are a charming place where landascapes always come different one from another, and the sea - hidden from the scrubland - surprises the visitors, making them feeling happy, mindless looking at the horizon. In these lands known for the natural beauties, there is a less known side which deserves to be told. This story starts from the firts of the sea villages: Riomaggiore. Got there by train, you follow the way up the hill. The way is not tuff to find and during the summer it also is a chance to get away the crowd, looking for a trip off the beaten paths. The first part of the trail is a little bit challenging, but after almost 200 metres it becomes more affordable. Step by step you see around you the houses getting lost between the vineyards and you can hear the blackpacs following you for the way long - singing at the sun. During the way up you can take breath and let the view inspire you - the panorama is pretty impressive. The top is not far away - only few metres still.
Once you get to the top, it start your discovering tour. The first meeting is with the Church "Santuario di Montenero". The Churches are five, as the Cinque Terre - there is a matching, talking also about beauty. The faith of knowledge asks for dedication, but it worth it. There is a sort of magical light which shine bright in the souls and all around the nature. All the Churches are dedicated to Maria. They are the Santuario di Nostra Signora di Montenero, Nostra Signora della Salute, Nostra Signora delle Grazie, Nostra Signora di Reggio, e Nostra Signora di Soviore. They are pretty old, the Santuario di Montenere has been built in 790 d.C. after a Maria appearence. It has been changed in XVIII century and it now shine looking at the sea with his patio.Retaking the way on the hill, you get to the Nostra Signora della Salute. Built in the XII century in a romanic style, it still is as it was, made of stones of arenaria and gotic bifora.
In the medieval Church Santuario di Nostra Signora di Reggio, probably from the 1248 d.C., there is a huge cypress tall 22 metres which is a proud witness of all history, of all the people and the facts that involved this land. The Churc is over the beautiful Vernazza and it looks kind of mistirious as it is lonley deep inside the woods. The trail ends in Soviore, little village over Monterosso. Here, the history has left her mark. This is the place where the locals seeked refuge during the Lomgobardi invasions, by the Church. The Santuario di Maria di Soviore was built in the 1244, keeping the guiding role of all the churches in this land. These are the Cinque Terre.
