The first village of Cinque Terre, coming from La Spezia, is Riomaggiore, which is built on the slopes of Mount Verugola. Its three cliffs are represented in Riomaggiore’s coat of arms and are the symbol of the village. The lower part of the valley is filled with the authentic houses of the fishermen, now converted in beautiful apartments, that reach the sea shore, called “La Marina”, which is the original centre of this small fishing village. In this colorful scene nestled amongst the green vineyards there is the Medieval Castle, which is currently used for events and conventions.Arm yourself with camera, trekking shoes or mountain-bike, a water bottle, a hat, and a swimsuit... your holidays here can be varied: the village, in fact, offers a lot of different activities. You can walk along the trails of the National park that lead inland or run along the Ligurian coast which starts from Riomaggiore – a memorable experience in Cinque Terre. The trails are the most suggestive way to reach Cinque Terre.
